Review is based on my first couple hours playing on an iPad 2.
I was hesitant at first but being a long time BI fan I picked this up.
Basically it plays like a simpler XCOM with a military setting. While it doesnt really bring anything new to the tactical genre it is a nice little game that plays pretty well. The AI is tough, plenty of weapon/upgrade choices, and the missions are pretty fun with multiple avenues of approach.
I kept feeling during missions that it needed to be more complex, more like Jagged Alliance, but the simple streamlined approach is fun when you arent looking for a long game session.
I experienced one crash in my 3 hours of play which occurred during the tutorial. Turning off fog of war and the higher effects seemed to fix this issue. I highly recommend to BI to adjust the building transparency effects. It drops the framerate to single digits and often times obscures a roof you are trying to get to and makes it impossible to move.
Issues:
Building transparency is buggy and tanks the fps.
Controls are finicky, accidental movement happens a lot.
The camera can sometimes make it impossible to move where you want to.
Feels too simple at times.
Whats good:
Progression system
AI (so far)
Cover works well
Missions have multiple approaches
Graphics are solid, even without the extra options on
Bottom line, its worth the price if you like tactical turn-based games and want something that doesnt have aliens.
Ill update if I come across any other issues.
